Readiness Workshop: Empowering people with practical preparation for any crisis.

Saturday, November 1, 9:00am – 4:00pm

St. Paul Lutheran Church

1377 Lester Rd.

Valley City, OH 44280

Emergencies can happen at any time and they are not considerate of the church’s schedule. We want to be ready for emergencies like: fire, weather, power/water service outage, medical events, or disruptive individuals.

The Elders and Campus Safety Committee are pleased to host a 1-day workshop here at St. Paul to provide training for you and especially those who serve you when we gather for activities.

Saturday, November 1, 9am – 4pm (lunch included) all are invited to participate in the 2-part workshop (you are especially invited to the afternoon session; see below).

Session 1, 9am-12pm: Primarily intended for volunteers who serve at church activities who may be called upon in an emergency.
Sessions will include behavioral threat assessment and management as well as fundamentals for preparation before and response to an emergency. (Anyone may attend, even if you’re not interested in serving on a safety team. Maybe you’d like be more familiar with the training others will employ in an emergency.)

Lunch, 12-1pm

Season 2, 1-4pm: WE NEED YOU! The afternoon session will involve role-playing and putting into practice the principals learned in the morning. We want to re-create the atmosphere of a Sunday worship service to add to the realism of what it is like to respond to an emergency when the organ is playing, pastor is preaching, and the like. The more people we can have, the more natural it will feel.
This is a great opportunity for our volunteers and for you.

WHAT WILL I GET OUT OF THE WORKSHOP? It can be very reassuring to have walked through what the response to an emergency might look like. What should we do while waiting for an ambulance to arrive for someone who fainted? Where should we go if there is a fire drill? What will it feel like to have worship interrupted for an announcement or to escort someone out?
If you attend the workshop, you’ll better know what to expect and you’ll also make it a better workshop! You’ll be more aware and better prepared if these things ever happen to you or near you. It will be very reassuring to know that our pastors, elders, and safety teams have prepared for such an event.

Training will be provided by Dr. Julian Petzold of Lion Safety Consulting. http://lionsafetyconsulting.com/

Dr. Petzold has more than 28 years of experience and has worked with Lutheran schools and churches in Ohio, all across the LCMS, and beyond.
He has been recognized by the LCMS Michigan District as a school “Administrator of the Year” and the Lutheran Education Association (LEA) as a National Early Childhood Administrator of the Year.

Area LCMS Congregations are invited to participate by sending your safety teams. All that we ask is for a cost-sharing contribution for the training and lunch.

Thanks goes out to the LCMS Ohio District Board of Directors for funding grants to provide training to congregations and to Rev. John Greig, Mission Executive, for coordinating the grant.
